An Young Gil

Korean Professional 6 dan player

1980, May 1

Baduk

He became a pro player in 1997.

As soon as he started to play official matches, he showed an extraordinary talent winning 18 games in a row. For this, he got the annual most wins in a row award of 1997. He made remarkable results after so playing at some main tournaments of domestic major titles and new player competitions.

His best ever stage was the 8th LG Cup International Baduk Championship in 2003, which he passed through the preliminary round and got into the main tournament. However he had to take 2 years off for the national obligation, the military service, and ever since he stopped playing, his winning percentage began to decrease steadily. He was awake of that there are lots of young and gifted players, and it made him think about other activities as a baduk player.

Recently he has been staying in Sydney, Australia to promote Baduk and study English.

Personality

He is known as an angel among baduk players due to his kindness and warmth. He is also easy going to everyone and hardly gets mad at anything. Many people say that he is feminine rather than masculine but he always insists that he is not feminine at all. Well I would say he is gentle and polite. (In some phases, yes he is feminine I think) He is positive and optimistic but sometimes indecisive.

Hobbies

He plays the piano very well. I had a chance to listen to his play and it was great. Also He wrote a few piece of piano music by himself. In addition he likes to listen to classical music, so one day I asked him if he has favorite classical music in his mind, and he answered Liszts Liebestraum.

Yet he says his favorite composer is Beethoven. He likes reading books and traveling as well.

P.S. If you have more questions, please add comments, he probably will answer on his own.
