Diary
How far have you gone for a workshop?
To get to the
Yes. It was the longest journey of my life.
Mr. and Ms. Cloutier, who hosted Mr. Kwon, gladly
welcomed, and treated us a glass of wine, delicious scrambled eggs and crispy
English muffins even though it was already over midnight. You know, midnight is
not really late in
Mr. Marais is a Latin and Greek teacher in
I guess that’s why he provided me with a bed room and a bath room at his place.
When I arrived there, around
(I was
so sorry to see that..;) And there was a note on the table, saying he prepared
for dinner just in case I feel hungry after a long trip. The dinner was grilled
pork chop, cooked butternut squash and fried rice. (I ate them next morning for
breakfast. They were all nice; especially the butternut squash was the best pumpkin
kind food I’ve ever tasted)
It looked like
he cooked them and was waiting for me.
SO KIND!!
I woke up at around 7 am and went down. It
seemed like Mr. Marais had already had his breakfast and went out. (But it turned out to be my misjudgment, he was inside and I met him after coming back to the house) Anyway, I drank a
cup of hot coffee and went out for a walk. I wanted to see where I was since I
couldn’t see anything last night due to the darkness. It
was chilly out there. But somehow I didn’t feel the coldness. I was like ‘Wow, it must be kidding.’ The
beautiful, diverse colors of mountains and trees, shiny
Mr. Cloutier invited Mr. Kwon and me to
the Dining Hall of Kent School for lunch. There were Salad bar,
Just looking around the cafeteria was appetizing.
So I ate salad, pasta, tomato soup, sandwich and vanilla pudding for the
dessert. Haha. They were so good even though I wasn’t hungry at all. (Remember? I ate pork chop, rice and butternut
squash for the breakfast this morning)
Then we took the campus tour with 2 korean
students.
They showed us where they study, practice music and work out etc.
Honestly,
I felt envy the students for the great environment, buildings, fields and
everything.
It looked like heaven for students.
After the tour, we took a nap. Haha.
You know, the jet lag is unavoidable.
OK, now let me tell you about the lectures.
We performed 5 official lectures and 2 private lessons in total.
On Saturday
and Sunday, we presented introductory lectures on the game at Dickinson Auditorium.
(Also there was a small group lesson at Sunday morning at Mr. Cloutier’s)
Monday, we introduced the game to the Mr. McLeod’s math class students at afternoon. And at night, we taught some
chess club members and attendees over Pizza party at Mr. McLeod’s house. (Though I was pretty sure that many of them were ‘Pizza aimers’, I tried my best to make
them interested in Baduk)
Then Tuesday, we had a meeting with Math Team
members, (where I met Joe, hehe) and a small group lesson after dinner at
Dr. Nadire’s house. (He made a
fantastic Couscous for the supper) Oh, I’ve heard that Dr. Nadire is the advisor of the Go club in
